OCR Triple Award Science (Year 10-11)

Exam Board: OCR Gateway Science

Biology
Chemistry
Physics

This course is aimed at pupils wishing to gain 3 GCSEs for Science – Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The Triple Science course is most suited to pupils wishing to take science further than GCSE as it provides a deeper and broader foundation for A Level science studies than the Double Award (Science and Additional Science).

Timetabling: This course can be followed by two routes:

Core Triple Science: All three sciences are taught in the lesson time allocated for Double Award Science (4 lessons per week). This is an intensive course only suitable for those with both scientific aptitude and genuine commitment. The advantage of this course is that pupils can use all their option blocks for other subjects so will gain an extra GCSE at the end of Year 11.

Option Triple: Includes one option block as well as core science time so all three sciences are taught in the lesson time allocated for three GCSE subjects (6 lessons per week). This includes one option block as well as the core science time so pupils have more time for reinforcement and reflection. This option is targeted at those with a keen interest in science where the additional time for reflection would be more appropriate.
