BTEC Firsts are designed to provide specialist work related qualifications in a range of sectors. They have been developed to provide a preparation for employment to enhance career development opportunities.
There is NO final exam. Pupils are assessed through written and practical assignments carried out throughout the course. Grades for these assignments are as follows: PASS, MERIT OR DISTINCTION (These grades are broadly translated into a double GCSE grade e.g. Pass = CC, Merit = BB and Distinction = AA).
Pupils will usually get one practical lesson and one theoretical lesson per week. However this may vary due to the nature of the unit being studied. The BTEC First Certificate in Sport consists of three units chosen from six for assessment.
