Carol Service 2016

CAROL SERVICE 1

On Tuesday 6th December, Winchester Cathedral played host to another carol service by Kings’ School. The evening consisted of a diverse collection of carols, choral, instrumental and orchestral items, including the Boys’ Octet performing “Away in a Manger” in 4-part harmony and the Girls’ Octet singing a contemporary arrangement of “O Come O Come Emmanuel”. Every year, the service features an adult choir that comprises of parents, governors and teaching staff. This year, they performed Stopford’s arrangement of “Lully Lulla” and Rutter’s “All Bells in Paradise”. Alternative arrangements of popular carols often feature each year, and this carol service was no exception; the Year 7 choir performed an arrangement of “Starlight” by G. Swayne, and the main choir opened the evening with “Hail Holy Queen”. The various choirs, orchestra and candlelit procession featured over 140 pupils and 100 governors, parents and staff. Once again, the Cathedral was near full seating capacity. The service was led by Canon Sue Wallace, with prayers by the Revd. Neil Birkett. Special thanks to our Hampshire Music Service teachers David Glynn, Jamie Langridge and Ann Clausen, who helped rehearse and lead ensembles in the service.
