Winchester Rotary Celebration of Youth Gala Evening 2017

Lara Clarke and Thomas Toledo-Brown represented the school at the Winchester Rotary Celebration of Youth Gala Evening on Sunday 25th June at the Theatre Royal. Both performed exhilarating repertoire with confidence and passion.

Lara is currently studying Music in Year 11 and particularly enjoys singing songs from the shows – at every possible opportunity! In addition to singing in the Hampshire County Youth and Show Choirs, she is also a committed member of the chamber and main choirs at Kings’. Also a keen French horn player, she spends most of her free time in the Music department family, when she is not busy with her duties as deputy Head Girl. She continues to make excellent progress with her musical studies and always relishes the opportunity to perform on stage to live audiences. Lara sang some show songs, her favourite genre!

Tom Toledo-Brown started playing the trumpet at a very young age and joined his first band, the Hampshire County Junior Band at just nine years old. He developed a strong passion for music in the Brass band environment, joining the National Children’s Brass Band at 13, followed by the National Youth Brass Band and Hampshire County Orchestra shortly after. Tom was fortunate to have Philip Cobb, principle trumpeter in the London Symphony Orchestra, as his tutor, who has been a great inspiration and source of encouragement. Tom has been a valued, committed member of the Kings’ School Music Department, involving himself in a plethora of extra-curricular musical activities, including conducting the Chamber Orchestra and performing various solos at school concerts. He is about to embark on the Hampshire Music Specialist Course at Peter Symonds College and we wish him every success for the future.

Tom performed Adagio and Allegro: 1st and 2nd movts from Sonata (in Bb), Op. 1 No. 5 by Handel.
