Coronavirus Update

The Government is continuing to manage the risk of serious illness from the spread of the virus.  As COVID-19 becomes a virus that we learn to live with, there is now an imperative to reduce the disruption to our pupils’ education.  Our priority is to provide face-to-face, high quality education within an environment which is as ‘normal’ as possible.

Wherever possible, we have continued to adhere to the Government guidance (which you can find here).  Our school COVID protocol is here, in particular we would like to highlight the following:

  1. Personal Hygiene.  Good personal hygiene and the need to protect others from coughs and sneezes by regular handwashing, the use of hand sanitiser provided around the school and encouraging the ‘catch it-kill it-bin it’ mantra for tissues.
  1. Face Coverings.  Face coverings are no longer mandatory at school (however your child can continue to wear one if they wish to do so), but they should continue to wear face coverings to and from school on public transport.
  1. Asymptomatic Home Testing (Saliva Test).  All pupils are strongly encouraged to continue with home testing.  The school has signed up to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Saliva Testing Programme and will provide test kits and bar codes to every pupil.  Parents can replace any missing bar code sheets by calling 0808 1962 282.  Saliva samples will be collected on Tuesdays (Years 7,8,9) and Fridays (Years 10,11 and all staff).
  1. Child with Symptoms.  If your child displays any known COVID symptoms, as previously please do NOT send them into school.  Instead, you should order a PCR test by calling 119 or via the website https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
  1. Contact Tracing.  There will no longer be the requirement for the school to conduct contact tracing, this is now the responsibility of NHS Test and Trace.
  1. Self Isolation.  From 16 August 21, if you are fully vaccinated or aged under 18 years and 6 months you will not be required to self-isolate if you are identified as a contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.  Further guidance can be found here.

Please continue to inform the school of a positive result by using the school COVID mailbox (covidreport@kings-winchester.hants.sch.uk) and if you have any queries regarding the school protocol please send them into kings.school@kings-winchester.hants.sch.uk.
