GCSE Results Information

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am writing to you to remind you of our plans for Results Day on 20 August. As Mr Leeming advised in his End of Term Letter to you, this year, we will be sending our Year 11 pupils’ results to them electronically via their school email addresses. I know a number of our Year 11s may have forgotten their passwords; if your child is one of these pupils, please do ensure that they contact IThelp@kings-winchester.hants.sch.uk for assistance in accessing their school account (and, therefore, their results) as soon as possible. I understand that a number of pupils may be disappointed that they will not be receiving their results in person at school, and Miss Fox and I certainly wish we could be on site with the year group to share the enjoyment of seeing them obtain these. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, however, on public health grounds, we feel that it is better to send results to our Year 11s electronically on this occasion. If pupils have questions about their grades on Results Day, we encourage them to call the school and, if necessary, arrange to come in for a consultation with senior staff (we will be here from 0900-1200 on 20 August, as we usually would be). We want to be helpful but we also need to manage risk. I have attached the most recent guide published by OFQUAL for students receiving grades this summer for reference; please do ensure that your child understands its contents.

On 20 August, we will be running a Padlet page, much like the one on the night of the Virtual Prom. We hope our Year 11s will use this page to share pictures and messages of their Results Days. Miss Fox and I will be monitoring the page for the duration of the day and look forward seeing how they celebrate the day with family, friends and loved ones. The link to this page will be sent to you on 20 August.

I know a number of both pupils and parents still have provisional bookings for prom related activities and I am again sorry we have not been able to give a definitive answer on whether a Prom will be able go ahead. I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of what Mr Leeming wrote about this subject and that of Presentation Evening in his recent letter:

Our Certificate Evening is scheduled for Thursday 26 November. We would like to go ahead on this date but as things stand, we would not be able to.  If things change such that we are able to hold this event, we may expand it, adding an exhibition of pupils’ artwork and, possibly, some more opportunities for celebration – please save the date in your diary, in case the current situation improves. We will update you nearer the time.

We do not yet know when we might be able to arrange a replacement for the Prom. We certainly want to hold some form of celebration for our Year 11 pupils, but will need to continue to think about what form that might take. We hope that things will be clearer in September; our intention will be to contact former pupils during the Autumn to advise them about what we are able to arrange when updated government guidance allows us to be more definite.

Finally, I would like to wish all our Year 11s and their families a restful summer, which comes at the end of what has been the most unsettling time for all. I hope everyone finds time to enjoy the sunshine with family and friends and that all members of the year group ready themselves for whatever the next step is post-Kings’. Stay safe and keep well.

Yours faithfully,

Mr S Simpson

Head of Year 11
