Government announcement (4.1.2021 – National Lockdown)

5th January 2021

Dear Parents / Carers,

Re: Government announcement (4.1.2021 – National Lockdown)

Thank you for your support at the start of this term, in particular in following the Government advice about school closures.

Please be assured that we are and will continue to work tirelessly in endeavouring to provide the best possible education for pupils who are onsite and for those who are accessing remote learning from home.

As a school we are currently reviewing our processes to ensure both the safety and learning of all.  Those pupils who are at home will access a blend of learning (accessible through Satchel One), with a proportion of these being ‘live’ lessons involving presentations or streaming by teachers. We will soon be sharing more details of the structure of learning for pupils who are on site.

The Government announcement indicated that the examination arrangements would be different for Year 11 this summer. At this point, the only guidance we have is ‘The Secretary of State for Education will be asking Ofqual to consult rapidly on an approach for alternative arrangements that will allow students to progress fairly.’ It is vital that all pupils but especially Year 11 are focused and fully engaged in the learning we are providing. We will, of course, provide any adiditional information for our Year 11 pupils and their parents as soon as it is available.

We are aware there have been some IT issues linked to Satchel One and live streaming today and I would like to thank you for your patience as we resolve these as quickly as is possible.

For pupils who are attending school, please be assured that the lunch provision and school transport will run for the foreseeable future. Pupils should attend school in full school uniform, or in Kings’ School PE kit on the relevant day.

We will be continuing to ensure the safety and wellbeing of pupils on site, with our rigorous health and safety expectations: the wearing of face coverings as previously outlined, hand washing and where possible social distancing.

Our plans for lateral flow testing are advancing well and whilst we will not, at this point, be testing every pupil as previously intended, we will be testing pupils whose parents have given consent and staff who are on site as per the Government expectations.

We will be hosting our virtual Year 9 Parents’ Evening tomorrow between 5-8pm. Please check that you are able to log in successfully prior to your first appointment in order to familiarise yourself with the software.  Staff will provide feedback on pupils’ academic progress in their subjects either from home or school where necessary. Please note the date for the KS4 Options Event on 3rd February with the deadline for the submission of forms on 3rd March.

I would like to thank you again for your support in at the start of this term.

Yours faithfully,

Dr James Adams
