Welcome to Kings’ School and thank you for your interest in our school.
Kings’ is an oversubscribed, happy and successful 11-16 Community School with approximately 1730 pupils, serving the city of Winchester and surrounding area. It has been judged as ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED on four consecutive occasions, most recently in 2014.
I am exceptionally proud and feel privileged to be leading Kings’ School. This is an exceptional school. We have the highest aspirations for every pupil because we know the impact that a first class education can have on the future of each individual pupil.
Year on year, our pupils attain at the very highest levels and we are proud of our position alongside the very best state comprehensive schools in Hampshire and nationally. However, we aspire to much more than just academic excellence. Our belief in developing the whole-child is reflected not only in the breadth of academic subjects pupils can study, but also, the extensive extra-curricular activities that are on offer at Kings’. Our inspiring and inclusive culture strives to enable each pupil to feel confident, valued and enabled to discover the things that excite and inspire. Consequently, we are immensely proud of all our students’ achievements, whether academic, sporting, artistic or dramatic.
We believe in the importance of developing our pupils’ character. Resilience, self-awareness, respect, self-confidence, communication, leadership and service to others are all traits that will enable our pupils to thrive. Our pastoral system is central to this. Through our four Houses (Godwin, Norman, Stuart and Tudor), we challenge our pupils to develop into ambitious young people who make a positive contribution to both the local and wider community. Our pupils are well prepared for their futures and are successful in gaining places at local colleges, schools and ultimately the universities of their choice.
As a parent myself, I know that children and young people learn best when they are happy, secure and valued. We pride ourselves on the friendliness of the school and the close relationships between staff and pupils as well as the care and guidance that we provide. Our ethos is reflected in the school motto, ‘Una Laborantes’ (working together). We especially value our collaboration with parents and the wider community due to the benefits that these partnerships bring in building success together.
