Options Evening 5th February 2020

Dear Parents,

The time has come to consider which Key Stage 4 courses are most appropriate for your child as they move into Year 10. This is an important time and we wish to ensure that you and your child are as informed as possible. To support this decision, we are offering the following evenings;

Wednesday 5th February – Options Information Evening. During this evening you can attend presentations about the overall process and specific subject areas. (5.30pm-7.30pm). Please confirm that you have received this letter and whether or not you intend to come to the Options Information Evening by completing the online reply slip, which can be accessed via the following link:

Wednesday 26th February – Parents Evening. This evening takes the format of a normal parents evening and will give you the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with individual members of staff. This will help you and your child to make decisions about options choices. Parents can make appointments with teachers via our online booking system. Appointments will start at 5:00pm running to 8:00pm with each appointment slot lasting 5 minutes. You will be able to book your appointment with the relevant teachers via our online booking facility which you can access via the following link:

You will need your child’s date of birth to access the site along with your email address to receive confirmation of your appointment. If at all possible, try to access the system prior to bookings being opened in order to identify any login issues. All being well you will receive a message telling you that the evening is locked. The booking system will go live at 7pm on Thursday 13th February and will close at 12pm on Tuesday 25th February.

When making an appointment for Science, parents should book this with the assigned teacher. This teacher will have liaised with the partner teacher and will be able to summarise their comments. We are unable to offer appointments at this evening for parents to see teachers of PSHEE, as most of these teachers will also have responsibility for classes in another subject area. Any queries regarding PSHEE should be directed to your child’s teacher either via a telephone call or, if necessary, in writing.

Option forms will be issued on Friday 7th February and need to be returned to your child’s tutor by Tuesday 3rd March. Whilst we do all we can to ensure that every child is allocated their first choices, staffing and timetabling constraints sometimes mean that this is not possible.

We are also providing a programme of advice and information for the pupils directly. During February, a series of assemblies are planned covering option subject information, advice on the options process and future educational needs. The pupils are also receiving a scheme of work on Careers through their PSHEE classes.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind parents and pupils about the process of setting in departments, both for current and future reference. Pupils setting is based on a wide range of assessments, this will include examination results alongside other results and general performance in lessons. The Year 9 examinations alone will not dictate setting for Key Stage 4. Departments will be working very hard to scrutinise data and staff opinion about where a pupil will be best placed to achieve their academic potential.

We look forward to seeing you on the 5th and 26th February

Yours sincerely,

Mr. C. Rossiter Mr C. Marwood Mrs E. Hicks
