Government Catch Up Funding Statement

After a what has been a challenging time for all pupils we were delighted to be able to deliver our annual Year 6 Transition Summer School.  With funding via the Government Catch Up Scheme (£16855.69. (Parents to be reimbursed once funding has been received from the Government.)) we were able to offer 5 full days of activities to those Year 6 pupils starting with us in September.  Out of a co-hort of 360 just under two thirds of the year group attended.  It was wonderful to see them enthusiastically participating in a variety of activities lead and supported predominantly by our staff.  Based on pupil feedback they thoroughly enjoyed the days they attended.  New friendships were formed which has had a positive impact on their transition to secondary school life.

Kings' School Year 6 Transition Youtube Channel

In order to try to make transition easier for both children and parents, we have created a Youtube Channel, where you can find videos providing information about the different departments at Kings’ and general information regarding the transition to Year 7 in September.

Transition is a part of life we all deal with in our own ways. To try to make transition easier for both children and parents, communication is vital. It is important parents can be involved in this process alongside their children and so we aim to make this a positive experience for all involved.  Our aims and outcomes for this programme are:

  • Preparation for change
  • Confidence building
  • Compliment their learning, social and intellectual development
  • New working experiences and environments
  • Working as a team

Running alongside the visits by Dr Adams, Headteacher and the Head of Year 7 that already take place during year 6; this new transition programme gives parents the opportunity to meet some of the key staff within the Pastoral Team who will be supporting the children in the change from primary to secondary school.  There will also be a range of activities offered to the children at the start of the summer holidays.

Year 6 Transition Summer School dates are Monday 25th/Tuesday 26th July  and Thursday 25th/Friday 26th August 2022. For more information contact Mrs. Edwards, Transition Co-ordinator on 01962 861161 or via email to

As parents and carers, preparing for this change and making sure that your child feels able to take the step from primary school can feel difficult.

However, there are many ways in which we can help our children -and ourselves – feel ready.
